What is botulinum toxin and how does it work?
Botulinum toxin is a neurotoxin. It is a protein synthesized by the bacterium Clostridium Botulinum. Neurotoxin blocks the transmission of the nerve impulse from the neuron to the muscle fiber. This leads to muscle relaxation and means that the muscle does not contract and cannot wrinkle the skin that lies on top.
What age is best to start Botox therapy?
30 years of age (For each patient is individual)
What do we need to know after the procedure?
The injected sites should not be massaged and pressed. During the first 4 hours, one should not lie down or bend the head, as it is possible that the botulinum toxin may pass into another muscle group due to its diffusion property. Four hours after the procedure, the patient should remain in a sitting or standing position. For the next 72 hours, no active cosmetic products containing alcohol, creams, gels, masks should be used, and no cosmetic procedures, peels, facial massage should be carried out. Alcohol consumption is also contraindicated.
When does the results occur?
The action of botulinum toxin occurs 4 to 10 days after the procedure. The maximum effect is usually observed 1 to 2 weeks after the procedure.
Duration of the results?
If a muscle relaxant is injected for the first time, its action lasts about 3-4 months. With subsequent applications, the duration is usually longer (between 4 and 6 months). There is also a small percentage of patients in whom the action lasts 8-9 months.
